Captain David Sheffield, a.k.a. Capt. Big Dave, grew up in New Jersey. In 1989, he sailed into Marathon and has returned every winter season to enjoy the spoils of living life in the Florida Keys.

Capt. Big Dave began to learn his craft as a child, racing sailboats all over the Eastern seaboard. During his college years, he served as a mate on various party boats and charter cruises. He also obtained his USCG 100-ton Masters License, including a towing, sail and radar endorsement. He is a Licensed HAZMAT handler, trained in the containment and clean-up of Hazardous Material spills on water. Since then he has operated tug boats, crew boats, oil response, dinner cruise and survey boats.

Capt. Big Dave has traveled up and down the East coast, from Maine to Texas. He has also extensively cruised and tournament fished the Bahamas, Cuba, the Cayman Islands and Mexico. He has now settled permanently in Marathon to pursue his first love....FISHING!!
